Furuno establishes new broadband service center

In response to the growing demand for high performance maritime satellite communication, Furuno announced the establishment of Furuno Broadband Service Center (FBS). FBS will have strategic focus on Furuno’s expanding business in the rapidly growing maritime satellite communication market.

FBS will be responsible for the development, expansion and maintenance of Furuno’s maritime satellite communication activities including marketing, support and traffic accounting for maritime satellite communication systems that include INMARSAT and VSAT systems.
FBS will serve as the coordination center for all Furuno subsidiaries, national distributors and clients in EMEA and North America providing airtime and coordination support. FBS will assist shipowners in an effort to optimize individual communication decisions and processes for enhancing ship operation, ship safety and crew welfare onboard.
FBS will be located at Furuno’s subsidiary company Furuno Danmark A/S in Copenhagen, Denmark. Having extensive knowledge and experience in the maritime satellite communications industry, Furuno Danmark was the logical choice to spearhead this endeavor within the global Furuno group.

The new service center will focus on the core areas vital for reliable maritime broadband connectivity including: tailored system solutions, least cost routing, airtime, compression utilities for optimization of bandwidth, trench settings, white and black listing of Web pages, onboard GSM solutions, etc. FBS will offer consulting, educational seminars and sales support.
FBS will complement Furuno’s Global Customer Network Center located in Japan, serving clients with communication solutions in Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America.
The Center draws on Furuno’s vast technological expertise in research, development, manufacturing and worldwide service and maintenance management systems.
In addition to FBS, Furuno Electric CO., Ltd. previously established the Furuno European Branch Office (FEBO) in Copenhagen focusing on support in EMEA of Furuno’s Integrated Bridge Technology and Furuno INS Training Center (INSTC) with skilled experts engaged in training of officers in bridge management and operational training in the use of Integrated navigation and communication systems.
FBS will offer airtime services for all types of Inmarsat terminals and seamless VSAT ku-band communication services with connectivity of up to 4 Mbps for ocean-going fleets.
Inmarsat Communication terminals Felcom15, Felcom 250 and Felcom 500 and a VSAT system FV-100 are all part of Furuno’s product portfolio of professional communication solutions handled by Furuno’s local subsidiary companies and national distributors with area knowledge and expertise.
